I got the answer to 47a but am not quite sure how the clue gives that answer. Could you please explain?

    Thanks,

Good question! It may be helpful to be of a certain age to solve the clue 🙂

Nat ‘King’ Cole was a well-known singer who died in 1965 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nat_King_Cole). As an aside, Natalie Cole was his daughter.

Take the letters of NAT away from CORONATION and shuffle the remaining letters (‘in turmoil’) to get the answer. A nicely misleading clue because of the connection between KING and CORONATION!

Thanks. I am old enough to remember Nat King Cole, but it probably relates to my age that all I could think of was the nursery rhyme about Old King Cole (a merry old soul) and couldn’t find anything there to help me. I spent a bit of time looking at the letters in CORONATION, but if I had spent longer on it and spotted that I simply needed to omit NAT, I would probably have thought of Nat King Cole at that point!
